2014 Subaru Forester Featured in Puppy Bowl Ads

The term “when pigs fly” has long been a term of incredulity, describing disbelief at far-fetched or unbelievable claims. Maybe the brand new term must be “when dogs drive.” But that hasn’t stopped Subaru from putting our four-legged friends inside the drivers’ seat of the 2014 Forester in a chain of 4 commercials so one can be aired during Animal Planet’s “Puppy Bowl” programming as a way to air in the course of the halftime of “the big game.”

Some of the ads feature a human figure, Grant Weber, a Subaru “canine sales associate” who’s job is to sell cars to dogs. The primary ad has no dialogue, but simply shows Weber going over his sweater with a lint roller. A better ad, dubbed simply “Tailgate” shows the rear hatch of the 2014 Forester opening, revealing a heap of sausages, and two dogs facing the back of the auto, overlooking their meaty bounty, set to the “2001: an area Odyssey” theme music.

“Let’s Talk Financing” shows a dog negotiating with Weber, pushing the calculator back with a counter-offer. Finally, “On the Lot” shows a cat driving away in a blue 2014 Subaru Forester as Weber and a “customer” are out walking the lot. The ads end with the clever (or corny) tagline, “Once you sit in a Subaru, you stay.”

In addition to the nice and cozy fuzzy ads, Subaru may be launching a Facebook app including such features as a dog matchmaker, ask a dog, a dog driver’s license creator, and a “put your dog in a Subaru” feature.
