Caught: Audi S3 Convertible Doesn’t Lose Its Top in Snowy Weather
Spy photographers just snapped shots of an Audi A3 sedan prototype last week, and now they’ve caught its drop-top cousin out testing on snow covered roads. It’s not only an A3 convertible though; the spied prototype is the racier S3, so that they can make the wind blow through your hair even faster.
Quad exhaust tips and air vents at the sides of front bumper indicate it can be an S3, which can pack a similar heat because the 296-hp Euro-spec S3 hatchback. Based off the A3 sedan, the convertible appears like a shrunken A5 convertible, and that’s not a foul thing. But it’s not all good for us, a minimum of: we don’t expect the S3 convertible to ever touch U.S. soil.
We can keep dreaming about an A3 or S3 convertible, but meanwhile, we will stay up for the A3 sedan, with a purpose to be the primary Audi model we’ll see using the MQB platform. The fashionable sedan may arrive in 2014 as a 2015 model, and high performance variants, with an S model to follow. The A3 should receive 2.0-liter gas and diesel engines, per Audi’s current A3 offerings within the U.S., mated to dual clutch and manual transmissions. Front- and all-wheel-drive may be offered, though specific powertrain combos haven’t begun to be revealed. There’s a plug-in hybrid inside the works, but just like the convertible, there’s no word on whether it is going to reach our shores.
