Lincoln Previews Super Bowl Ads, Promises Hitchhikers and Flamethrowers

If you haven’t noticed, Lincoln is doing all it might probably to rebrand itself as a brand new sort of luxury automaker. Just consider Lincoln’s Super Bowl ads: both ads will reportedly feature biker gangs and a ’90s Town Car on fire.

We’ll focus on the twitter-generated advertisement in a second, but we wish to give special attention to Lincoln’s second ad, nicknamed “Phoenix.” Within the ad, a ’90s-era Lincoln Town Car being hit by a flamethrower. The automobile magically becomes a 2013 MKZ, with the voiceover: “it’s not what you suspect.” This video segment is an ideal acknowledgement of Lincoln’s recent past and a showcase of its newest product; it also includes a flamethrower.

In other news, Lincoln says that its “Steer The Script” experiment in creating an advertisement in keeping with tweets goes well. Thousands of individuals posted 140-character road trip stories to Twitter with the hashtag #SteerTheScript, and late-night Jimmy Fallon lent his followers (and comedy expertise) to the experiment.

Out of 6000 tweets, Lincoln staffers whittled it all the way down to just five, and people tweets will ultimately, um, steer the script. They include tales of apocalyptic alpacas, German hitchhikers, biker gangs playing checkers, craft services tables, and marriage proposals, all of that’s loads of narrative to cram into 30 seconds. Fortunately Lincoln says it’ll make a 90-second version for the net.
